About
Just2Bucks is the map-based app you’ve always wanted, with features built to get you off the app quickly. It was built by cruisers for cruisers.
We’re just two bucks who got tired of our favorite apps turning to crap, so we decided to build one ourselves. That starts with the thing that broke our trust everywhere else. We do not sell your data. Not your profile, not your location, not your messages, and not an aggregate of your data. The only outside companies that ever touch it are the infrastructure services that store and move it to keep the app running (even the map is drawn from our own tile store). They keep the lights on. That is all they do.
Apps all seem to have this cycle: they’re so good when they launch, then they hire a bunch of growth marketing people to make sure all the users spend all day on the app and then sell off the data, users, or even the whole app. That means more ads, more tracking, more upsells, higher subscription prices, and more of our sex lives turned into profits for investors. Then users get frustrated and jump to the next app and the cycle continues.
We’re here to break the cycle.
Just2Bucks is designed to work against the relentless incentive structure that demands returning value to investors. Yes, the app is designed without annoying ads and we don’t share data today. But more importantly those things won’t change because we’ve defined them in our company charter. You can think of it like Patagonia, but for cruising. The app won’t get worse and the part of your sex life you enjoy here on our platform will never leave our platform. We mean it, our data is in here too.
Your messages and photos are encrypted in transit and stored encrypted on our servers, so they follow you across your devices and survive a lost or wiped phone. We are technically able to read messages, just like all other apps. The difference is significant and obvious if you read their privacy policies and ours because theirs actually says they will share and sell your data. And they do.
We’re different because we only use that access for the reasons you’d expect (such as where laws require): keeping people safe, acting on reports and finding the illegal material the law requires us to report, and running the service. We never sell or share your messages, and we never use them to target ads.
The free tier shows at most one banner. Never more than one, never a pop-up, never a full-screen takeover you have to dismiss to keep going. We dropped third-party ad networks entirely, so there is no tracker riding along in that slot. If we think the paid tier is worth your while, we will say so in a way you can ignore.
We don’t show your exact location. The map shows a deliberately blurred point for everyone, including the dot that represents you; your precise position is used only on our servers, to place that blur and sort who is near you, and is never shown to anyone. We confirm once that you are 18 or older, from a date of birth we never display. Other people see your age, never your birthdate.
Signing up takes an invite code. That’s how the app will always work and it’s how we’ll keep out spam bots and problem cases. This keeps the app real, safer, and more focused.
In writing
We’re not just saying it, we’re writing it into the company’s own governing documents. The Just2Bucks Charter is the full list, in writing, so you can read it, hold us to it, and verify the company on the public record. It is also where we commit to put money back into local queer communities.
