The Charter
Most apps ask you to trust them, then change the rules whenever it suits them. We are writing ours down instead. This is our Charter: a short list of promises we hold ourselves to, bound into Just2Bucks’s own governing documents and published here so you can read them and hold us to them. We are two people building something small and honest, and these are the commitments that keep it that way.
We do not sell, rent, license, or hand your personal data to anyone. The outside services that touch it are the infrastructure providers that store it to keep the app running, and they have no right to use it or share it. The one honest exception is the banner ad: showing it means your device makes a request to the ad company, and like any web request, that exposes your IP address to them. That request carries nothing else. No profile, no location, no messages, nothing you do here; the ad promise below spells out exactly how the ad is boxed in. Selling user data is the business model we are reacting against. We will not have it.
The app shows at most one banner ad. Never more than one, never a pop-up, never a full-screen takeover. Right now every feature is included for every member, and that one banner is what keeps the lights on: we would rather run one honest ad than lock features away or sell your data.
Here is exactly what that ad is. It is served by an ad company, ExoClick, inside a sealed frame: their page, on their web address, boxed in so it cannot steer the app, take over your screen, or read anything inside the app. When the banner loads, your device makes a request to them that, like any web request, exposes your IP address, and because the frame is theirs, their cookies live there, the same as on any site that shows their ads. What they never get is you: not your profile, not your location, not your messages, not what you do in the app. We do not send any of it, and we strip the referrer so the request does not even say what you were looking at.
There are no paid tiers right now. If a paid tier ever returns there will only ever be one, at a reasonable price, and we will rewrite this Charter first, before anything in the app changes.
We are giving away 10% of net profit. With help from users, we’ll select local queer-focused nonprofits and queer-owned businesses and put real money back in your community.
We are building Just2Bucks to run it, not to flip it. Over a company’s life things can change: leadership can change hands, ownership can evolve, and outside money may someday make sense. What cannot change is this Charter. Any such deal, investment, debt, acquisition, or a change of control, comes with one non-negotiable condition: it cannot make a material change to the promises on this page, and it cannot give anyone the power to make one later. A deal that would really mean giving up control of your data or of these promises is a deal we will not make. Before any such deal closes, the independent lock described below gets built first, and these commitments come with the company: a future owner inherits them, never the option to drop them.
Right now these promises are published here and are being written into the company’s own governing documents, which makes them real commitments we cannot casually walk back. We are honest that this is not yet the strongest possible lock: the strongest version puts a veto in the hands of an independent party so that not even a future version of us could quietly change the rules.
So we commit to build exactly that. We will retain legal counsel to put a permanent, independent legal structure in place, one that keeps this Charter from ever drifting, when either of two things happens, whichever comes first:
